2013 Fld Switchback

2013 Fld Switchback

  1. There is still the opportunity to buy a 2013 Harley Davidson Switchback with 0 km. Has there been any upgrades to that model, looking at the 2016 model?
It seems the even older Dynas had some model related issues, but are they all sorted out on the 2013?
    Thanks!
  2. The 2016 gets the High Output 103 from the touring models. That's good for nearly 10 horsepower and torque over the previous model years
  3. Thanks!
I will need to check if the gutsier motor is introduced for 2016 here in Sweden as well. Sometimes both manufacturers as well as federal bureaucracy can surprise you. IIRC, manufacturing date, MY and first registration date are treated different between cars and bikes within EU.
  4. Except for the engine changing to 103 , I could be wrong but i don't think theres any changes ,, I would'nt let the 103 engine change my mind too much the 96 goes good anyway , I have the 103 and ride with guys with the 96 motor every week , the only difference in ability to get from A-B any quicker is the riders ability .

What would sway me is if i could get a red hot deal , , I just recently bought my 2015 2 weeks after the 2016 came out ,, New price on 2015 was $24000 ,, same bike 2016 was $24500 .. i scored the 2015 for $20800 BIG savings i would backtrack the new price of a 2013 model and then want a SUBSTANSIAL amount knocked off the price , after all 10 klm after you ride it away you are the proud owner of a 3 year old bike regardless of the mileage ,, Make sure you get a good deal , or let the send it back to America to strip down and use for spare parts .

But motor wise you will not tell any difference , one mate i have , has the 103 motor and keeps telling me how mine and his bike is better than the other guys bikes we ride with ,, he says because we have the 103 motor , we have more power and torque , and will shit all over theres ,,, So then i have to gently in a nice way remind him , , that he's the one were waiting for at almost every turn . ha ha

Alexander B and SQD8R like this.
  5. I'm pretty sure the 2013 is a 103 as well. The new bikes have the 103 HO engine with different cams, and breather I believe.
  6. That is correct

Also, the 16 has ABS as standard and an RPM/gear indicator located in the odometer display. Not sure if those are on the '13 model

  7. Thanks everyone!
I did test ride a 2014 Switchback before, and it had the RPM and gear indicator. I think the Switchback always had the 103 engine when sold in Sweden.

The lowrider S has cruise control so they join the soft tails in having that option previously only offered on the touring bikes. I do not know if the other dyna bikes can be fitted with it, but that was always a huge missing option for me. Over the years I have used everything from "O" rings, throttle locks, nothing to real cruise control and as I get older and tickets more costly, I enjoy being able to have cruise where appropriate. May not not be an issue depending where folks live and ride, but that is the only significant change (if available on all new dynas) that would sway me from a smoking deal on new, old stock. They have a lot going for them IMO and they look sweet with the quick release bags removed too!

Is cruise control available like on the lowrider S? If not there are not enough changes in horsepower, etc., that would sway me from a smoking deal on new left over inventory. Sweet bike and I love how they look with the quick release bags off!

    Cheers

  10. Cruise control still not available on the Switchback.
  11. Lowrider S does look bad-ass. Cruise control should be on every new road bike, as they transition to ride-by-wire.

I don't feel the need for the 110 engine though. Haven't seem pricing yet, but it will be expensive in Canadian pesos.

Compared to a Switchback, I would prefer HardCase's new Fat Bob:

Same idea, easy change from adequate tourer to cruiser with QD windshield, luggage, foot-boards, etc.

Thanks for the info. Seems like when it works on one model in the family it should be available on the others at least in the near future. It's money sitting on a shelf rather than in a more profitable bike sale. Anyway, Some tech is way above my needs and wants like on some bikes with multiple maps, etc., but I do use cruise a lot more than I ever imagined. HD is smart to start expanding the models that you can have it on.

    Cheers

  13. When Switchback first released in 2012 it come with 103 in US and 96 over seas. ABS and alarm were $1195 option. Now 2016 in the US has the new 103 and ABS standard. Alarm is option. Not sure if they made changes to over seas market. They don't offer cruise control on this bike yet. duno why it is a mini RK. Switchback shares most parts with his big brother RoadKing windshields from RK fits Switchback vice versa. Entire front end is FL
  14. Alexander, there has been reports saying that switchback is suffering from bad vibration around 3000 rpm. is it true? Their was a story about the exhaustpipe and it is mounting if I recall it correctly.
  15. I had one of the first production, Switchbacks only vibration was when you come to complete stop. Once you roll there is no vibration at all. I am sure there was bad batch with vibration same goes for every brand, but I know for sure mine didn't have any vibration.
  16. @Iranian and @Switchglide12. The one I tested had a dealer installed stage 1 (pipes + air filter) and it ran well, although with lots of vibes at idle. I have seen discussions related to vibes at mid rpms, but it seems to be a mix of incorrectly fitted engine mounts and exhaust pipes.
  17. Where does the information come from? I went back and checked the older swedish models, and for 2014, the last Dyna (Wide glide, I think) had been upgraded with the 103 motor, says one of the swedish bike magazines' yearly compilation. And according to the official swedish Harley Davidson catalogue, Switchback had the 103 motor already in 2012.

ABS was also standard from the introduction here, by the way.

  18. Alexander, if you are into cruisers, try the midnighstar 1900. It's good cruiser but unfortunetly with quite high running cost and to small fuel tank and lack of ABS. Despite that, it is a good cruiser. I have been driving it and liked it a lot.
  19. Yup, probably a good bike, but as you said, no ABS, small tank and no longer sold in Sweden = no interest from me.

  20. Just noticed that the Switchback has single exhaust 2/1 with a single muffler, whereas the Road King has duals. This may effect performance on the 103.

Also, my Road King Classic windshield comes off in like 3 minutes - very easy to remove. The saddlebags come off easy as well, but the rack/bracket not so easy.

They have also removed the engine guards/passenger guards as on the RK.

Add up all those deletions and it removes a lot of cost that is not reflected on the MSRP.

Point? IMO the switchback should be more than around only $1000 cheaper than a RK, as they have cheapened the exhaust, cheapened the fenders, removed guards, and the "bags" look a LOT less expensive than the RK bags.

Very nice bike no doubt, but NOT a comparable value to the RK. I'd buy an actual Road King, and take the windshield off when desired. Better overall value.... IMO
